Dayton Elementary School is one of 40 schools in the state who have partnered with the Indiana Pacers for its "Read Like a Pro" program. Representatives from the organization presented an all-star line up of readers for the students in first, second and third grade. They shared "Fancy Nancy," "If You Give a Pig a Pancake," and other favorite children's books.
"As part of our partnership, the Pacers presented a program about bullying and healthy choices in the fall," says Dayton Elementary School Principal Ryan Simmons. "This reading program is a great way to get students excited about reading and understanding that reading is not a chore, but something you enjoy. We want to instill a love of reading that will help them in school and throughout their lives."
The event ended with an appearance from Freddy Fever, the mascot from the Indiana Fever. The students received free backpacks, books and other prizes.
