Throughout the holiday season, TSC students and staff give back to the community through various activities including food drives and fundraisers. Some efforts are schoolwide, others involve individual classes and clubs. This is a look at some, but not all, of the activities involving our schools.

Several schools conducted food drives including Dayton Elementary School, Hershey Elementary School, Wyandotte Elementary School, Battle Ground Middle School, East Tipp Middle School and Klondike Middle School. Other schools, like Woodland Elementary School, Wainwright Middle, Wea Ridge Middle School and Mayflower Mill Elementary collected food and other items for families in need.

Cole Elementary School, along with community partners, participated in the Shop with a Cop program that benefited more than 30 children.

Some classes at Burnett Creek Elementary School visited nursing homes and shared holiday ornaments, read books and sang Christmas carols. In addition, the school held a Day of Giving, where students made blankets, scarves, cards and other items for people in need.

The staff at Wea Ridge Elementary School donated books and blankets to the Heartford House, while students donated items to local animal shelters. Students at Battle Ground Middle School and Wainwright Middle School also collected blankets, food and grooming supplies for animals at the shelter. Wainwright students also rang the bell for the Salvation Army.

A class at Mintonye gave up their gift exchange to provide items for animals at shelters. Another class, inspired by the novel Crenshaw, collected boxes of personal care items to share with families in need. The student council conducted a hat, glove and food drive.

Hershey Elementary School wanted to make sure their school bus drivers know how much they are appreciated. They passed out holiday treats to all the drivers. Students also created more than 400 holiday cards for patients at Riley Children’s Hospital, while Klondike Middle School raised $600 for the organization.

At Southwestern Middle school, students held a donation drive to benefit Family Promise of Greater Lafayette.

The act of giving can be one of the most rewarding experiences we can share with our students this holiday season. Thank you to our teachers and staff who serve as positive role models and coordinate the fundraising activities.
