The Tippecanoe School Corporation has named Ellie Minogue as the TSC Elementary Teacher of the Year and Jolie McCartney as the TSC Secondary Teacher of the Year.
Minogue is a high ability teacher for fourth and fifth grade students at Klondike Elementary School. She has been teaching for more than 12 years and has a bachelor's degree from Purdue University.
Principal Scott Peters says Minogue challenges her students to be the best they can be emotionally, socially and academically. “Mrs. Minogue seeks to know her students not only as students, but more importantly, as children who have unlimited potential,” says Peters. “She approaches each day as an opportunity to help students unlock their gifts to become world-changing citizens.”
In addition to teaching, Minogue is active in school, professional and community organizations including the Tippecanoe County Extension Board, Student Council Advisor and the Indiana Association for the Gifted.
McCartney teaches Spanish at Harrison High School. She has 31 years of experience and has a bachelor’s degree from Hanover College and a master’s degree from Ball State University.
Principal Cory Marshall says McCartney is a dynamic educator who makes every student feel valued and important. “Mrs. McCartney works with students of varying ability levels on a daily basis. She is skillful at helping struggling students understand important concepts, as well as challenging the most advanced students.”
Marshall says McCartney's dedication is seen beyond the classroom and is respected among her colleagues. McCartney oversees the Raider Clothing Closet, sponsors World Language Quiz Bowl and leads evening classes for educators who want to learn Spanish.
A committee selected the two winners from a field of 19 building-level winners (listed below). Minogue and McCartney will represent TSC in the Indiana 2024 Teacher of the Year program.
