The Indiana Department of Education recognized educators from 241 schools with scores of 95% or higher on the 2023 IREAD assessment. State leaders celebrated Cole Elementary School and Dayton Elementary School during the Statehouse ceremony.

“Mastering foundational literacy skills by the end of third grade is vital to achieving our goal that 95% of Hoosier students are reading proficiently by 2027,” Governor Eric Holcomb said during the event. “Across our state, educators, families and communities are linking arms to help more students read, and it is important that we celebrate this impactful work."

The state recognized Cole Elementary School’s 95.6% pass rate on the standardized test.

“The students, teachers, parents and community at Cole are honored for this recognition. Hard work pays off,” says Principal Mike Pinto. “The Tippecanoe School Corporation has wonderful schools which promote literacy. Our community supports literacy through programs like Read to Succeed and organizations which offer support in multiple ways. We are grateful for the recognition. We are surrounded by terrific schools in this county offering high-quality education to all learners.”

The state recognized Dayton Elementary School for its 96.7% pass rate. 

“Our students have shown great growth on this test and worked diligently to display their knowledge,” says Principal Ryan Simmons. “Our teachers have done a wonderful job of utilizing the curriculum to meet the needs of our students, and understanding classroom data to help guide their teaching. This award and recognition solidifies the passion that our teachers have for teaching, and our students have for learning. We are honored to receive this award as it is a testament to the community nature of Dayton between our students, teachers and families.”
