Students jumped with excitement or stared in disbelief as Star Wars characters Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca and a stormtrooper roamed the halls of their school.

Behind the masks and makeup were the TSC’s school resource officers. The team made it a point to visit all fourth grade students throughout the district on Halloween Eve to encourage them to avoid the dark side and make good choices.

“This is a great opportunity for students to see our fun, goofy personalities and show them that police officers are much more than just a uniform,” says Deputy Beth Kidwell. “This is an opportunity to bring trick-or-treating to them, since many families will be missing out on that tradition because of the pandemic.”

Stormtrooper (Jason Morgan) charged into the room, Chewbacca (Rob Rush) made his distinctive growl and Darth Vader (Stephen Stonerock) towered over the students, while Princess Leia (Beth Kidwell) and Han Solo (Aaron Gilman) passed out treats to the classrooms.

The officers say this is one of many ways they strive to break down barriers and build positive relationships with students. “We want them to understand we are here for them and they should be comfortable coming to us when they need help,” adds Kidwell.
